"Many of the tribes here, the reason why they came here to Owyhee Nevada and Owyhee Idaho—the reservation is half in Idaho and half in Nevada because the tribes, the Shoshone, the Western Shoshone tribes and the Northern Paiute tribes were moved here from their ancestral lands, wherever they were living before. They had no choice but to move to the reservations as the Europeans came in. They began to take over the land and decide what they were going to do, because they didn't want the Indians to live there. They wanted the land. So then they started making treaties with the tribes. The first reservation was set aside on the Nevada side, for the Western Shoshone.”
