Jon Cox is an accomplished Associate Professor in the Department of Art and Design at the University of Delaware. Additionally, he serves as the Director of Arts and Culture and holds the position of Vice President at the Amazon Center for Environmental Education and Research (ACEER Foundation). As a dedicated and community-engaged collaborative artist, Cox specializes in photography and film, contributing to impactful projects on local, national, and international platforms.
With a global perspective, Cox has ventured to all seven continents, capturing compelling stories that revolve around social and environmental issues, driven by his passion for instigating positive change. Notable accolades include his recognition as a Fulbright Specialist, a National Geographic Explorer, and a Delaware Environmental Institute (DENIN) Faculty Fellow.
Cox's commitment to collaboration is exemplified through his co-authorship of two books with Indigenous communities. "Hadzabe: By the Light of a Million Fires" delves into the unique narratives of Tanzanian communities, while "Ancestral Lands of the Ese’Eja: The True People" explores the rich heritage of the Ese’Eja in Peru. Currently, he is engaged in a third book project with Diaspora in Idaho.
Supported by prestigious institutions such as the National Science Foundation, the National Institute of Health, Fulbright, and the National Geographic Society, Cox's current collaborative projects continue to make a significant impact. His work reflects a deep commitment to addressing societal challenges and fostering cross-cultural understanding through the lens of art and exploration.
